Thankful!

Thanksgiving has come and gone. Only a few leftovers remain. However my heart is full of gratitude for faith, family and friends. My cup runneth over with love! His love, really. I'm so grateful!

As December quickly approaches, I look forward to decorating our home with lot's of 'vintage' and glitter! Baking cookies, making gifts with my daughter and building a gingerbread house with sweet, Carter!

Just wondering....what are your favorite Christmas traditions?

As the days get busy and the stores get crowded, I have one simple prayer. That wherever I go and whatever I do, I will make room for Jesus. That my heart, soul and mind will be like 'the stable', and not 'the Inn' that had no more room'!

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
First Psalm, 9x12 oil

After getting settled into my new studio this week, I was anxious to pick up my brushes and oil paint today. I decided on a photo of a fall tree line for my subject matter and here's what I have so far....
I'm so grateful for this opportunity. It's hard to explain how much it means....it's been a dream for a long time.

Tag Sale!

Last Saturday, my friend Jana picked me up at 8:30 and we drove to the outskirts of town for Holly's Tag Sale! We were excited before we even got there, so when we turned down the road and saw this site, we started squealing! The old house's, barns, and sunlit trees provided a inspiring backdrop.

Though anxious to check out all the treasures , I talked Jana and Holly into a quick pic! Oh! See that cute CREATE sign over Holly's shoulder? She paninted it on canvas! I wish you could see it up close....Oh yeah, you can! Isn't that cool? I have no idea how she got it so perfect. On second thought she probably had a plan and took her time. Great job Holly! And check out the old doors!

There were so many! Narrow, wide, painted, stained but all old and solid wood.
This cute old maple chair/rocker was $5.00! Everything was so well priced.

I bought a large plastic 'C' for a cute little 'c' I know! $15

I also bought the cutest wooden folding chairs for my new art studio. Though we only stayed for an hour, we had the best time! I want to thank Holly and Robert Joyce, and their three children for all their hard work. It was a magical!

Today, I ran across pictures of a nursery I painted three years ago
for Tiffany McKelvey. It is a lovely room and I thought you might enjoy seeing it.

Art Class - White Roses!

Today we took the lessons learned in the first 3 classes, put it altogether and painted white roses and birds nest! Everyone did a fabulous job and had a good time! In between clases, I had a couple of hours and painted the canvas above.

Here is the studio and the 1st class of the day! What a great group of ladies!
Below is the painting I did in the evening class. Molly and Lila did a great job, too!

Art Class!

I realize there hasn't been much 'art' lately @ Roxanne The Artist! I've just been, shall we say, in a holding pattern. However, my precious Father in heaven, who knows the 'desires of my heart', has answered my prayers.

Over the past year, some sweet friends have been encouraging me to teach them to paint. So 4 weeks ago today I began teaching. It went well and I had so much fun! Then 10 days ago, in response to a conversation about 'having a real studio someday', friend Terrie arranged for me to see a loft space downtown. I instantly loved it! So now I have a studio! . . .the kind I've dreamed of! I can hardly contain my excitement. It is amazing! I promise to take more pictures, but for the time being here are the ones I took on my iphone at the end of class.

Deviled egg plates make the nicest little palette!

The results of a 2 hour class on 'roses'! Jo Carol, who does have some painting experience did a fabulous job on her roses ( bottom center). She was so surprised that we did no drawing...just painting!

This was Boot's 2nd lesson ( her roses are at the top of the photo. The three on the left we did together, the large single on the rt., she did alone). Beautiful!

Today we are painting again from 1-3 and another class tonight, from 6-8! There are a few seats left at the table, won't you join us?

District 4 AAAA Champions!

At the beginning of football season, I decided to start a football blog in order to seperate these two important but different aspects of mine and Coach's life together. It's been a great season, perhaps my favorite thus far, and last night Abilene Cooper beat Plainview High 48-3 and won their 1st District Championship since 2003! For those of you who don't live in West Texas, the 'land of Friday Night Light's', this is a BIG DEAL...a huge accomplishment! I'm so proud of the entire team and coaching staff. It was a great way to finish up the regular season play. Next week, the Cooper Cougars dream continues as we travel to Lubbock Texas to play the Dumas Demons in the 1st game of the 4-A Playoffs. Congratulations to a great bunch of guys! You are champions in so many ways. Here's to a long playoff run and an opportunity to win a State Championship.
To God be the glory.

Mothers and daughters!

How can a mother, explain in a few words, the heart felt, love that she has for her children? Something I often shy away from, this morning while looking at these pictures, they summon joy from depths of my soul and so I surrender, that my heart might sing it's song!

Recently, Beth accompanied Carter on a preschool field trip.
They traveled to a local farm, where they saw farm animals and had a nice visit with one particularly friendly cow....please excuse her for talking with her mouth full, she doesn't know better.
On a farm. there are many sights and sounds of interest! Lot's of animals, crops and even kittens. Though the highlight of the trip was perhaps, grabbing a friend's hand...
.....and searching for the perfect pumpkin!
Everyone found a favorite!

The well behaved four year olds, were gathered up for a group picture. As you an see they did quite well.

Until one little black kitten decided to join them.

Okay! Here comes the emotional ending........
When I look at these pictures they take me back to a time when I was the mommy and Beth was the baby. I am reminded of the joy of raising children! The constant hands-on involvement in their lives. Explaining, feeding, teaching, disciplining. dressing, playing, organizing, reading, brushing and bathing. It never ends, or though it seems. There is little rest for the weary. Yet, from my perspective today, these years though exhausting as they may be, are the richest and most fulfilling. More than anytime in a woman's life, there is the potential for greatness! For a great family! For great kids that will grow into amazing men and women. For great memories that will bring joy, time after time. For great relationships that will last forever!
So to my own precious daughters, and to all young mothers, I encourage you, do not grow weary in doing good things for your children. Invest heavily in them! Reserve for them, your very best!
These are things you will never regret. They will become to you, priceless jewels.
p.s. Beth, you are a wonderful mother! Watching you with Carter, blesses me. It touches my soul and makes me 'sparkle'! It brings honor to Dad and I.....and most importantly it honors God. Thank you, precious daughter. I love you, dearly!
