Saturday, one week ago today everyone was up bright and early despite a late night, ready
to hit the streets of the city. Clint and Jenny, who got in at midnight, caught up with Beth and
Kim for a little bedtime snack. What is it about New York that makes it so charming? We loved
it all! The sites, the sounds, the energy….I’d love to go back and see more! Beth and Nate
took off for a jog through Central Park. We saw Kat, in the hotel lobby dressed for the same and
told her she could run with them. However they missed each other. The rest of us left the hotel
in search of breakfast. It didn’t take long to find the TSQ. The owner greeted us at the door and
quickly directed us to a spacious room upstairs where all 1o of us could sit. The atmosphere was
was bright and sparkly like the numerous chandeliers and Coach and I loved the thick white coffee
mugs that reminded us of the restaurant ware of our childhood. Breakfast was good and got even
better when Beth and Nate, Kim and Bryan joined us. Apparently, Kim and Bryan had ran into
Kat (who was running on the street) and invited her to join us. Kat, a stunning, vivacious beauty
with amplified volume and exaggerated mannerisms, had told them she would love to but had to
go get her phone. She had hid it in a bush!
After breakfast, we walked to Central Park was gorgeous and were impressed with the long
ago insight to reserve and embellish this parcel of land. I can only imagine the therapeutic
benefits of this place to the people who live in this busy, hectic and crowded city! Genius.
Next stop, the Broadway Flea Market. The streets were blocked off and vendors filled several
blocks with their wares. We saw a little bit of everything…
eventually arriving at Times Square!
Coach, having never been there, was taking it all in. I love the pictures below and can hear
Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz saying, “Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”.
Thrilled by Laynce and Leslie’s last minute decision to join us, made the weekend all
the sweeter! After all, our longtime best friends have traveled through a lot of life with us!
It was only appropriate that they were there to experience this special event with us but
equally important that we were there for them. As God would have it, their son Jayson would
be starting at shortstop that afternoon, for the Yankees!!! Pretty amazing, huh?
Jason, like the rest of his family, is incredibly thoughtful and left us all tickets for the game!
WE WERE SO EXCITED TO WATCH JAYSON. Having watched him grow from infancy to the
Big League has been another one of life’s blessings. The fact that he was standing in the infield
at Yankee stadium was almost too good to be true! Just as we were settling into our seats,
we heard his name being announced and saw his face on the jumbo–tron! Then Leslie said,
look, he’s throwing with Arod! We just shook our heads and smiled! So grateful to be there.
And right when we thought it couldn’t get any better Jayson Nix went up to bat and lo and
behold, hit a two run homerun right before our very eye’s, plus a million more!!! Can you
imagine the happiness his parents feel each and every time they watch both Laynce and
Jayson play? Wow!
At some point Leslie asked me, “when we were young little newlyweds living in Freeport
Texas, could we have possibly have imagined”? I smiled in reply and said, “He has outdone
my every hope and dream”. Later that night Jayson took us all out to dinner at De Frisco's Steak
House. It was wonderful to spend the evening together. Everyone got to visit and catch up.
Jayson, has grown up to be an amazing young man. We will always love him.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
